Savannah Breed
The Savannah cats are a hybrid breed that
have many Attributes of the African Serval.
They also have many of the good attributes
of the domestic cat. The blend helps to
ensure your family has a pet, not a wild
animal when they mature. These cats take
much longer to mature than a normal
domestic cat. They can continue to grow up
to the age of two, some three.

AFRICAN SERVAL
The serval (Leptailurus
serval) is a wild cat native to
Africa. It is rare in North
Africa and the Sahel, but
widespread in sub-Saharan
countries except rainforest
regions. On the IUCN Red
List it is listed as Least
Concern.
It is the sole member of the
genus Leptailurus and was
first described by German
naturalist Johann Christian
Daniel von Schreber in 1776.
Eighteen subspecies are
recognised. The serval is a
slender, medium-sized cat
that stands 54–62 cm (21–24
in) at the shoulder and
weighs 9–18 kg (20–40 lb). It
is characterised by a small
head, large ears, a golden-
yellow to buff coat spotted
and striped with black, and a
short, black-tipped tail. The
serval has the longest legs of
any cat relative to its body
size.

SAVANNAH CAT
The Savannah cat is bred and
sold based on the F rating or
filial F1-F9 numbering
system. The F rating is equal
to how many generations out
from the Serval outcross. F1
has a Serval father, F2 has a
Serval Granfather etc.. The
percent of Serval can vary
due to when the outcross
takes place, example; when
Serval an F1 are outcrossed,
a higher percentage of Serval
to Savannah is produced yet
still cassified as F1. This
resets the genetic Line of
Savannah cat. The Savannah
Cat is a Champion Breed.
TICA has set standards for
the breed. If you are
interested in entering your
cat to show, you ill need to
purchase a Savannah cat
with a SBT (Stud Book
Traditional) rating. This rating
is given to cats with a
bloodline that has record of
at least 4 generations of
both parents that are
Savannah cats and are
registered through TICA to
document the line.

History
Serval to Savannah
A Savannah cat is a cross between a domestic cat and a Serval, a medium-sized, large-eared
wild African cat. The unusual cross became popular among breeders at the end of the 1990s,
and in 2001 The International Cat Association (TICA) accepted it as a new registered breed. In
May 2012, TICA accepted it as a championship breed.
Judee Frank crossbred a male Serval, belonging to Suzi Woods, with a Siamese (domestic cat)
to produce the first Savannah cat (named Savannah) on April 7, 1986.[4] In 1996, Patrick
Kelley and Joyce Sroufe wrote the original version of the Savannah breed standard and
presented it to the board of The International Cat Association. In 2001, the board accepted
the breed for registration.
